Thursday 3rd March was a good day and the longest sunset of my life

Today has been a good day.
There are two ways of packing. You can either forgot things you are going to need later, or you can have lists and carefully decide to leave things at home, before finding out that you should have decided to take them.  I think both methods shake out the same but I sit firmly within the second (I think it’s much less stressful as it happens). In any case, this is what my packing for three weeks away looks like.

Good points of today include getting to hang out in the First Class lounge in Heathrow (my other half has a Gold Card) – very pleasant and included good food for free.

Of course, we also must have a ‘we’re getting on a plane’ selfie….

Today has also been the longest sunset of my life.

We took off from Heathrow at about half past five and we’re flying to the very west end of Canada. The plane is flying at a merry 544mph (The display on the headset is very precise about this).
The route we are taking means that we are chasing the sunset.  It’s amazing.
Unhelpfully, the photos I have fail to do it justice. Even more unhelpfully, we were delayed by about 25 minutes leaving, which means that we’re chasing the last remains of a sunset, rather than the glorious peak of one.
Amazingly everybody else on the flight is content to sleep though this.  I do fail to understand.
It’s still there, just a gentle caress of red on the horizon.  This is the sort of moment that makes me think I should be a better photographer.  I’m vaguely interested in being able to take a photo that shows something (like my food) to best advantage, but times like this make me think of the times that I’ve seen sunsets, light shows, fireworks, and partys and my photos have come out as dark blurs.  I might look into that.
More when I land I think.
Update… we’re actually catching up with the sunset.  That is a thing that happens. Everyone else on the plain is *still* ignoring it.
Gratuitous photos of a sunset happening in reverse now follow…

Finally we arrive in Vancouver, and I’m now taking photos from the 27th floor of Vancouver’s third largest hotel.  It’s quite the view.
